WHA have been big fans of Pinhook for years, but this latest barrel pick is something particularly special.
During our 2025 Top Shelf Kentucky Tour, WHA's Brock Tregellas and TWL's Scott Allan, alongside our tour guests, visited Pinhook at the historic Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky.
After tasting through a number of barrels, we were lucky enough to select something incredibly rare. A 10 Year Old Single Barrel Bourbon from Pinhook's Vertical Series, one of the most exciting projects in American whiskey.
This is the first time Pinhook has offered a single barrel from its aged bourbon program exclusively for Australia.
And here's the kicker. This barrel won't be available in the United States. We've already upset a few American bourbon collectors who are trying to figure out how to get bottles shipped back over there!

The Whiskey
Pinhook's Vertical Series is a fascinating experiment in bourbon maturation.
Several years ago, Pinhook secured 1,350 barrels of MGP bourbon from Lawrenceburg, Indiana, all distilled on the same day.
Beginning in 2019, Pinhook started releasing batches of these barrels annually, allowing bourbon lovers to follow the evolution of the same whiskey as it matures from 4 years old through to 10 years and beyond.
With only a few hundred barrels remaining, we've been fortunate enough to secure one of these exceptional 10 Year Old casks for Australia.
And if you know your American whiskey, you'll know that MGP bourbon really starts to shine once it reaches double-digit maturity. Well-aged MGP single barrels have become legendary amongst bourbon enthusiasts, and opportunities to secure them are increasingly rare.
Bottled at a powerful 117.5 Proof (58.8% ABV), this is a rich, complex and beautifully mature bourbon, packed with dark chocolate, cooked fruit, tobacco and spice.

Tasting Notes:
Nose
Dark chocolate and cacao nibs, cooked peaches, hazelnut, toffee caramel, subtle oak and a clean-burning wood fire.
Palate
Dry tobacco, cinnamon, liquorice, charcoal, cacao, soft leather and raspberry jam.
The Selection

During our visit to Castle & Key Distillery in Frankfort, Kentucky, we had the rare opportunity to taste and select a barrel from Pinhook's aged Vertical Series.
Unlike our previous 5 Year Old Pinhook single barrel, which was produced using Pinhook's own distillate, this 10 Year Old comes from the legendary MGP stocks that form the foundation of the Vertical Series.
It's not every day you get the opportunity to select a double-digit aged MGP bourbon, let alone one from such a limited and closely followed collection.
We couldn't pass it up.
